Session 47

In the warrens as the group prepare their final plans for the attack in the morning Eben heads off to speak with Athrialix and then with Vordon to make final their preparations
The plan was that a veil strike force would venture into the Artisans district, there they will create a display of pyrotechnics to draw templar and hopefully necromancer attention. Solzak, Eben, Jekall and Frost will accompany the city guard led by zafir toward the pens. The members of the free will be disguised as slaves alonside 2 senior veiled alliance cells. Together they will enter the slave pens ahead of the others and begin to quickly spread rumors and whispers that an breakout is imminent. The Brotherhood and Orsk after heading to the merchant district to make an exchange with Helandrez will drive a caravan towards the pens some minutes behind the others. When they arrive they will spring forth and cause a diversion that will allow the veil and rest of the group to try to free as many slaves as possible using a public well which is located nearby. Another veil cell will be waiting in under Tyr beneath the well to assist slaves in deopping down to their escape. A daring plan and not without high risk, but that was how they liked it
During the evening Solzak disappears from camp and slips into the warrens without telling anyone and fails to return by morning
From his meetings Eben gains full support of the veil and a warning that athrialix expects heavy resistance and defence at the pens. Athrialix does not seem himseld either and actually offers to help to try to surpress or disperse the mist
House Vordon offer their full support and they are able to have pretty much anything they need for the raid. The next day Helandrez will come and pretend to ‘pay’ for the goods on behalf of House Troika and they will exchange the caravan and goods with him. Thaxos is at first hesitant but comes round to Eben and offers him an exceptionally good deal
As morning comes the group awake to realise solzak is missing. Orsk is in a foul mood as well as some of the other brotherhood. A general air of apathy pervades. Jekall senses something more and realises that Orsk has been influenced severely by the mist of the previous night. Some of the brotherhood and half giants seemed to be suffering also. Through meditation and quick wits Jekall is able to surpress nearly all of the affected from the feelings of dreea, at least for the coming battle and they are able to continue with the morning’s preparations. The members of the free arrive shortly after carrying the canvas sheets which are given to Orsk who will be commanding the caravan troops (brotherhood of freed slaves). The veil agents co-ordinate with Eben and plan to set up in a building as close to the enclosure as possible without arousing suspicion. The distraction team then gets into their position close to the artisan’s district in order that they will be ready to begin as soon as a signal is given
The other two teams then begin their journey over to the slave pens. The morning heat shimmers off the glistening stones of the ziggurat as they pass, stained in places with the blood of the previous days conflict. A reminder of what could yet be to come
The brotherhood led by Orsk head to their rendezvous with Helandrez where they exchange coin for the battered caravan, even at this time in the morning their transaction does not go unnoticed…
Jekall, Eben, Frost, Zafir, the city guard and the free head to the slave pens, making their way without hassle due in no part to their brilliant disguise
As they pass nobles and tradesmen having their breakfast they can see many eyes watching them, mostly with curiosity or scorn for the ‘slaves’ that had been captured
They reach the slave pens and outside they see a collection of some 180 slaves bound together. They are flanked east and west by Tyrian soldiers. Further back stand two figures cloaked in black heavy robes, they can only be 2 of Kalak’s necromancers! They stand in front of a covered wagon which from inside is issued terrible screams of pain. As the screams ring out they can see all except the necromancers wince slightly
A templar, clearly enjoying his power trip, calls out slaves one by one who are sent over to the wagon. He calls out to Zafir to bring over his slaves as they need to be ‘screened’ by the necromancers before they are allowed in the compound.
Aware that this could stop the entire plan Zafir hesitates for a moment but then must comply or else put them all in danger. He positions them so that at least it will give them some time to get into position before the fighting starts
Zafir then heads off with his guard and Jekall to the pens gaining entry still riding on their crodlu’s so as to keep mobile if needs be
A minute or two later the hulking shadow of a caravan looms into view as Orsk and the brotherhood approach
The templar hails the caravan and asks it to halt, when it continues closer he screams at it and immediately the tyrian army stand alert
The tattered and beaten caravan stands silent for a moment before Orsk, covered as much as possible so as to not be recognised. The templar asks what he is doing here and Orsk explains that they have a shipment of slaves for Tyr. The templar then demands that they be disembarked immediately and join with the others for screening, disregarding Orsk completely when he demands payment.
Just as the templar begins to turn away Orsk brings back his arm and swings at the templar, pulling out his shield…
