Session 52

  • Frost looks back and barks out a warning as he can hear the sounds of approaching soldiers and their imminent arrival. Turning back to the creature in front he slashes out at the Thrax in front of him who leaps, grasping at his throat.
  • The brotherhood launch a volley of missiles into the thraxes but as they are under water it makes them extremely difficult to hit and many of the missiles zip into the water harmlessly
  • The thraxes then leap out of the water, slashing and grabbing at the allies, some of whom are forced to wrestle with the creatures desperately lest they latch on and drink them dry. A slave group is caught and a Thrax greedily feasts on them one by one as they scream in terror
  • Orsk lashes out at the Thraxes who are upon him as one of them grabs his leg and sinks its fangs in. Even with Orsk’s thick hide he can feel a cold numbness in his limb and a weakness begin as the creature drinks
  • Catalina rushes in to help but swings wildly in frustration splashing in the water frantically
  • Naraaku, seeing Frost in trouble sends a couple of arrows into the thrax facing him, going straight through the creature’s chest and causing it to emit a piercing howl. Naraaku then retreats backwards close to the far waters edge keeping pace with the slaves. He calls out to those slaves who are elven to join with him (in Elvish) and they spot and call him out
  • Frost sends his Fire Hawk at the Thrax distracting him whilst he slips past back into the water lest he be caught by the approaching Tyrians
  • Eben charges one of the creatures drinking from a group of slaves but it dodges his attack and the great executioner axe just splashes into the water harmlessly seemingly going through the Thrax as if it was not there
  • The thrax which was caught by Frost’s Fire hawk tries to fight the creature off but ends up being consumed in a ball of flame
  • The brotherhood send another volley into the remaining Thraxes, hoping to distract them and allow their companions to escape
  • The fighters try to push the Thraxes back so they can make an exit but the creatures are persistent
  • The escaped slaves continue to wade through the water trying not to look back as their companions fight the Thraxes and wary of any more which might be lurking in the deeps. Some begin to exit onto the other side of the stream
  • Naraaku sends another twin volley of missiles across the cavern as he takes up position on a rocky outcrop on the other side, directing the slaves onward to ‘freedom’
  • Eben feints the Thrax he faces moving backwards to leave the creature exposed, then, bringing his axe over his head with a great swing, as if in slow motion the axe comes crashing down on the back of the Thrax, the force of the blow is so great that the creature is literally cleaved in two, and is left in a pool of its own liquid as each part of the body floats in a different direction down the river…
  • Orsk shouts out to the remaining Thraxes, commanding them to stand down or they will be slaughtered like the rest
  • With Brotherhood weapons trained on them the Thraxes hiss and chatter amongst themselves and then look behind as they see the tyrian guard begin to reach the cavern mouth. Cackling to themselves they slink back into the water with cruel twisted smiles on their faces as if they know what is next
  • 4 groups of mul arrive running down the shingle to stand close to the water with crossbows raised. They shout out for the group to surrender or die and Orsk shouts out the same to them, and so they open fire on the brotherhood. Fortunately the brotherhood were able to shield themselves
  • 4 Half Giants are close behind and they immediately advance into the water, great clubs in hand
  • Finally 2 templars stand at the back and scream a their troops to show no mercy. One of the templars looks toward frost and shouts at him to submit to Kalak’s will. The mental attack causes frost to clutch at his skull but he manages to shake it off. The other templar fires off a spell of dark bolts that streak across the cavern, knocking 2 half-giants back and scorching them lightly
  • Naraaku, now in position quickly looks round, and spotting some black moss he remembers when applied to a blade has the same effect as Bloodstinger poison. In one sweeping manoeuvre he scoops some up on the head of two arrows strung to his bow and lifts up to aim at one of the templars. In the same breath he lets loose and the arrows zing towards their target. One whizzes past the official’s head but the other plants deep into his chest, opening a ghastly wound that almost immediately festers from the effects of the poison. The templar makes an incredible painful sound as he crumples onto the ground. Naraaku shouts again in Elvish but this time an insult to his enemies.
  • Just then Frost notices a series of bubbles and froth appearing from the east edge of the cavern as if something was coming to the surface. Whatever it could be, he knew it was huge and shouted out to the others warning that something was coming. Instinctively those that could dived out of the way and then from the water rose a powerful spout of water and great wave as a huge Drake nearly swept them from their feet with its incredible size and weight.
  • The whole cavern seemed to quake in fear as the mighty beast swept its huge claw and lashed out, but the beast did not attack the group and instead drove straight into the Tyrian guard Half-Giants! A howl of terror as a blood shower poured from the gaping wounds that now scratched across the chest of one of the half giants such that even the templars winced at the sight. As the beast recoiled for a second strike a halo of blue energy raced over its head and then, shimmering behind it there came forth from the water another Drake, the same size and menacing shape as the original!
  • Frost, a smile drawing across his face thanked the beast under his breath for sparing them and retreated to the opposite edge of the river
  • Orsk shouted at the tyrian guard half-giants that had been separated from the templars to take this opportunity to escape their oppression and be free. In the chaos and confusion 2 turned their back on the templars and mul who were trying desperately to control the situation
  • The rest of the group, seeing their chances, fled as quickly as they could to the other side of the stream and as they got to dry land and glanced back as first, the half-giant who was wounded charged into the great beast and knocked it down! As the creature lay defenceless he beat it with his club, but it was far tougher than anything he had ever faced. The Drake struggled and rose back to its feet angered and brought its great jaws down on the Half-Giant crushing him in its mouth. The sound of breaking bones and ripping muscles reverberated as the group hurried down the cavern to catch the rest of the slaves and Naraaku
  • As they caught Naraaku they could already see he and the other slave elves were arguing amongst themselves about who was going to loot the bodies of their comrades when they were silenced by the arrival of the others.
  • Moving on then they saw the cave opened up into another cavern far bigger than the last with more running water! As much as this was a joy to see right now was the last thing they wanted. However as luck would have it some rocky outcroppings looked sturdy enough for them to be able to cross and without hesitation Orsk wrapped a rope around himself and leapt blindly but confidently to the first! He made it and slowly but surely with the help of the other half-giants they began to make progress across the river
  • As they were about 2 thirds of the way a sudden buzzing sound alerted them to look up and to the west end of the cavern where the stream connected to another cave. A black hazy mass was coming towards them. Frost called out ‘Flying Ants’ and that they must create a distraction, fire being the best option. Any who were free then collected all the bolts they could and took up position to spray the creatures with bolts to hopefully keep them at bay
  • Forlan and Frost then came forth and as Forlan touched the water it began to swirl and gather in the centre of the river, building until it created a small typhoon. Those on the rocks have to steady themselves as water rushes by flowing in the opposite direction. The tower of water then stretches upwards just as the ants approach. Frost calls forth his fire hawk and sends it up to meet the insects.
  • A rain of bolts then shoots forth from the brotherhood and freed slaves, some connecting but otherwise generally causing the ants to manoeuvre to avoid them and halt their assault
  • Forlan concentrates on keeping the whirling tempest on the ants and although maintaining the spell was draining him considerably he is able to continue and push harder. He feared that without it they may lose more of the slaves, and they have come too far now. With Frost assisting and the brotherhood’s efforts after a few moments of tense pressure the ants are turned back to the other cave with a cheer and chorus of appreciation from the companions
  • Without delay they continue onwards as Orsk and the half giants ‘Gork’ and ‘Mork’ assisted the slaves and the rest over the final treacherously slippery rocks
  • Walking further down the tunnels the free orators looked relieved as they began to recognise this part of Under-Tyr as the sorrows and realise they were close to their home
  • The orators took over the lead, assisted by Orsk and Eben as protection and with only a few minor scares they were able to make it to the home of the free
  • Upon exiting a narrow tunnel that led to the home of the free a huge cavern opened before them, at the back they were shocked (especially Forlan and Frost) to see a legendary Tree of Life! These rare trees which bare magical fruit and are the covet of all defilers due to their ability to resist and fuel defiling magic. About 20 or so makeshift huts surround the tree and a small stream feeds water to the cavern from the north-east corner
  • As they enter the free call out and welcome the triumphant return of the Orators. Brevin and mee-lana extend their warmest greetings to all and they are offered basic food, water and healing salves are prepared to be administered to the wounded.
  • Brevin then invites the group to stay and to relax in their hospitality. For those who do not wish to fight, a permanent home, but for the rest a brief pause before they must return to the surface and continue the revolution…
