Session 56

Left crimson shrine an headed back to the home of free. Frost leading and looking out for the black widow earlier encountered
Several times he stops, sniffing the air. Through skill and a little luck there are no further encounters and soon the noise of revelrie from the free can be heard
The party is in full swing and the group are welcomed back with joyous and inebriated arms as the ex-slaves celebrate their freedom and honour the fallen. Dance and song are coupled with laughter and other relaxing activities.
Solzak approaches Naraaku asking for his assistance in another raid on the slave pens tomorrow at noon to coincide with whatever the necromancer’s plans are. Naraaku has had some drink but makes 2 good points in that they have no idea what they are up against and the 24 hour notice the necromancers gave was until sundown the next day not noon. Solzak heads to Orsk and Eben to re-discuss plans
Orsk sends word to the street kids to do a reccee of the slave pens in order to see their current state
Solzak then remembers he needs to go to the house of fingers to meet with Sizzkus, the assassin Sarkea organised for him to see. Taking Naraaku and Jekall with him they carefully make their way back to the surface.
When they reach the warrens it is extremely quiet, too quiet in a way and the strange black mist hovers gently on the ground unnerving them all
As they approach the house of fingers they pass close to the ruincreeper territory and notice a group of small shadowy figures moving west away from them. Believing them halflings they continue on their way.
As they reach the House of fingers a cloaked figure stands at the entrance ready to leave. Solzak breaks from cover and whispers the name ‘Sizzkus’ into the small square. The figure pauses and his hand reaches for his sword. Solzak explains who he is and appologises for being late. Sizzkus is not amused but provided the business is good and Solzak is paying for the drinks he agrees to speak
Inside the House of Fingers sarkea is busy seemingly enacting some kind of ritual. Several of the fingers rest on the bar surrounding her and she mumbles dark words under her breath
She scolds Solzak for embarrasing her but eases when more coin is shown.
Elsewhere in the tavern a general collection of scum and villainy is present as usual, but there is a group of Thri-Kreen who attract the attentions of Jekall. The Kreen are definitely new around here, Sarkea mentions. Jekall mingles with members of the Toothcutters who are in hot debate as to whether the threat feom Dote Mal Payne was real or just a bluff and they ponder if relocating to the noble district might be in their best interest.
Solzak lets slip the word ‘Revolution’ a few times which gets the attention of the ‘Kreen.
Jekall broadcasts thoughts to them making them believe that they are both bounty hunters looking for the same people, they do however know where ’the Half-Giant’ is and will lead them to his hideout (for a split of the profits). The ‘Kreen are skeptical but Jekall is very persuasive and they agree to follow (for now)
Jekall and Solzak lead the ’Kreen back to the veil hideout, but lose them on the way and are only able to communicate via psionics. At the entrance the ’Kreen refuse to go any further and wait for Solzak and Jekall to lure Orsk out
The two of them walk carefully toward the free hideout, looking out in case the Thri-Kreen have followed. Reaching the outer perimeter they ask one of the slightly enebriated guards to run and send a message to Orsk. The guard hurries off and upon reaching Orsk such a commotion is caused that the music stops and Brevin marches over with fire in his eyes demanding an explanation. Orsk manages to calm the situation saying it was a false alarm whilst simultaneously organising Eben, himself, the brotherhood half-giants and vanguard to slip away from the party to investigate. Utilising frost’s superior senses they find the way clear of ambush until they get to the entrance to this portion of under-tyr.
Solzak and Jekall lead as Orsk follows. Jekall communicates with the ’Kreen to see where they are and they decide that the House of fingers will be where they set their ambush
A few moments later Eben pokes his head out from the corner of the abandoned building only to catch a glimpse of a shadowy figure up ahead. The figure looks his way and ducks down
Eben, now wary that they have been discovered strides out carefully but confidently as if he has seen nothing and motions to the others to do the same
No sooner has the last of the vanguard begin walking toward the house of fingers that there are several light sounds from behind and a set of chatkchas is flung into their backs. The vanguard let out a muffled cry as they spin to unleash a volley of bolts at the source of the attack. On top of several roofs stand 5 Thri-Kreen, marked with an orange streak down what is visible of their heads. Their leader, armed with a Gythka points to the vanguard and the others in defiance as he clicks and whirrs a battle call to his clutch.
The brotherhood half-giants scramble up the sides of the crumbling buildings, greatswords at the ready and leap up to charge the thri-kreen, taken slightly off-guard by their speed and agility. Two of the ’Kreen are knocked back by the charges but their sheer agility and manoueverabilify make them very difficult to catch. One of the giants takes a mighty swing that misses and smashes into the baked roof, makong a sizable dent and causing an uncomfortable lurch, unbalancing both combatants
The vanguard let loose another volley of crossbow bolts as the ’Kreen are pinned in place. As the ’Kreen return fire with more of their chatkchas they begin to withdraw and it is clear they do not intend on sticking around
Eben, uncomfortable with this plan from the start sees this and rushes for a nearby doorway, kicking it in and scrambling towards the stairway to cut off their escape
Solzak, Orsk and Jekall turn around as they hear shouts and fighting, realising what is going on and keen to help out
The Half-giants continue to surround the Kreen on one side, ensuring they are pinned and unable to leap away too far, even leaping from building to building in order to persue them
The thri-Kreen send another volley of missiles this time at one of the half-giants who gets wounded badly as the thri-kreen concentrate their attacks.
Eben leaps to the building where the leader and two others are now ducking behind the walls in order to avodi the bolts of the vanguard. With a swing of his executioner axe green blood is splattered on the baked mud ceiling. The leader turns and utters low guttural sounds at eben, pointing to the others to attack
Jekall, running ahead reaches the vanguard and searches for the minds of the ’Kreen. The contact he had before seems to have been blocked
Orsk stomps down the narrow street and without checking his stride, leaps up to scale the nearest building
Solzak, moving silently through the alleys behind them looks for a suitable place to strike from the shadows
The battles on the rooftops continue as the Half-Giants successfully keep the ’Kreen pinned tothe ground as the vanguard pepper them with bolts. Orsk joins in too clattering into a ’Kreen and sending it crashing to the ground
The Kreen leader gave a call which sounded much like a withdrawl. With that the humanoids began to slip from the clutches of the group and started bounding away
Fortunately the half-giants were ready and several of the ’Kreen were knocked back down before they were able to escape including the ’Kreen leader who was held down by a half-Giant as Eben, leapt onto the roof he was on and proceeded to lay repeated axe strikes into the creature as it desperately struggled to escape the weight of the Half-Giant
Another ’Kreen leapt across to one of the roofs but then suddenly there was a creaking sound and a great crash as a nearby roof collapsed taking a ’Kreen with it. Nearby Jekall approached the door trying to make a connection and to see if the ’Kreen was still alive
Jekall turned swiftly though as he saw a ’Kreen drop down from the roof and run and hide around the corner nearly opposite him! The ’Kreen was preoccupied and so Jekall saw an oppourtunity to exploit an unwary mind. Concentrating his mind on the fortress that is another Jekall began to probe the ’Kreens mind for secrets, all the time delvin deeper and deeper. The ’Kreen realised what was happening but it was already too late as Jekall stripped away his feeble defences and his mind was laid as bare as the barren oceans of Silt. Jekall explored the oasis which lay at the centre of his mind and uncovered that the ’Kreen were hired by Dote Mal Payne and that they were based in the ministry of security in the templar district. He found also that they had been used before by Dote and seemed to be trusted.
Before Jekall could get any more information however his link was severed as a great thundering hammer strike split the skull of the ’Kreen in two! Jekall screamed a curse at Orsk, none the wiser as to what he just did.
Solzak had climbed upon a rooftop and as another of the ’Kreen bounded away he took out his crossbow and took careful aim. Adjusting for the wind and distance he felt confident that the aim was true and squeezed the trigger
