Dark Sun: The Tyrant of Tyr
As the tomb lid opened a great blast of air shook the shrine and a greenish apparition appeared before them
dressed in strange armour made of metallic looking plates and carrying a shield with the ring of fire emblazoned upon it the warrior then let out a terrifying scream. Yakala, Eben and Orsk were unnafected and seemed not to notice whilst frost and Solzak clutched their ears in pain as the sound shook them to their core
The spirit then calmed and seemed at peace asking what year it was and in warning tone what their purpose was in the tomb.
The group wisely replied that it had not come to defile or take from the tomb and the spirit saw that they spoke truth. He in turn introduced himself as one of a group of ancient spirit protectors and warriors from Raam. They were once great leaders and guides before the time of kings when magic was young in the world. He cursed the defilers and the ‘first sorcerer’, Rajaat, who had introduced magic and defiling to the world. They had left raam to find refuge in the west and defend the land from the conquering armies of the Sorcerer Kings. He asked what had become of Tyr for it was where the rest of the knights were headed after securing this fort. When he was told that Kalak now rules the warrior bowed his head saying they had failed
Jekall described the warriors they had seen as apparitions in the waking dream under Tyr. The warrior pondered for a moment and replied it was possible but because he was killed before that event there is no way for him to know the truth for certain but the description does indeed seem familliar
Then Jekall mentioned the creature seen and the warrior nodded, the avangion! A being of primal energy and light bent on the preserving of nature and the natural world. Of course! Yakala recalled legends of great preservers who had become one with the land as protectors equal nearly in power to the dragon. However those legends also generally end with the dragon hunting and destroying anything that attempts to gain that much power
The warrior was unconvinced that magic could ever be good and labelled all mages defilers
The warrior then turned to the group individually and asked what they quested for. To Frost, a druid he spoke of the hope that he can reunite the druids of Athas and crush the threat of Defilers. He advised them to seek out the halflings and learn the old ways from before the time of magic
Received a blessing from the spirit
yakala enchanted ebens axe and his own wand with the elemental spirits giving them extra power
eben recieved a message from athrialix about the state of tyr after the necromancers purged the warrens
the brotherhood set off north west to train and prepare for the assault on the mines
sent the stel ‘informant’ back to house stel with the agreement that he would not betray them on his honour as a warrior of hammanu
the rest of the group headed west and then north along the edge of the badlands towards the tarn
during their first day of travel the group saw smoke in the distance coming from a sponsored village of the noble house menises.
The group decided to push on and camped in the badlands. That night Eben and Frost experienced something odd but it is so subtle as to be barely noticeable
The next morning as they pack up camp a huge cloud ray rises from a nearby canyon and flies over head. They all duck in shock and take out their weapons but the cloud ray ignores them. Jekall is the only one who knows anything about them. They decide that it cannot have been the ray that was causing the strangeness in the early hours, or could it?
The fires in the nearby village have died to just smoke now and as much as they want to help the group decide they must push on
the second day passes uneventfully but that evening again eben experiences strange sensations. The others put it down to lack of sleep. The orbs are suspected but yakala believes it is not possible. After the days travel Frost and Jekall have found the sun too much to bear and have been exposed to sun sickness
The group continues the next morning after frost and jekall spend a little time tending to their health and preparing for the relentless sun once more
The day is quiet once more but as they pass the foreboding ringing mountains they cannot help feeling a sense of trepidation as to what lies above them
At the end of the day they are amazed to find that again their path has been clear, it is as if all the other animals and creatures sense their purpose or fear what they carry…
That evening as they set to camp Kagero and Narissa start the first watch. Just over an hour into their watch they hear a bone chilling howl followed by a much closer and very real roar…
