Dark Sun: The Tyrant of Tyr
Orsk and the brohg warriors leapt up the canyon wall to investigate the remains of the gith leader. Moving the rocks aside they saw nothing but a trail of blood and a broken shard of the weapon he wielded
Throwing the shard down to Jekal and Yakala they studied it and realises that this was not of this world. It was made of a strange blend of silver metal that shimmered with an iridescent light. Yakala recalled a tome he once read talking of travel to other dimensions – such a thing only mad-men dream of – where your life force is attached to your body by a single silvery cord. Should that cord be severed the mind and body would be instantly killed!
Taking this as a sign the group decided to persue the gith, not only to claim the rest of the strange metal sword but also to stop any chance that their approach to the monastery be discovered
They sped off with Frost in the lead but as they travelled they realised they were just keeping pace with the Gith. Frost searched and discovered a shortcut through an old mountain pass that was relatively close to the canyon floor. They rushed through and within another hour managed to reach the other side – just in time to see the group of Gith come screaching round the corner
The Brohg warriors bellowed and rushed forward impaling Gith left and right with their spears while the hurlers threw huge rocks, crushing all in their path. The rest of the group rushed forward too and before the Gith had even reacted their number was reduced to four! The Gith leader, soon surrounded with nowhere to go screamed and tried to psionically leap out of harms way but Frost – seeing what was about to happen lashed out his claws and struck him firmly in the legs to bring him crashing to the ground, dead
Inspecting the body of the leader they found two highly prized gems – An Agate and an Aquamarine. Frost put them safely in his pouch as his role now was group treasurer
Upon inspecting the greatsword dropped by the Gith they discovered it truly was one of the swords of the Githyanki, which could well be confirmation of the presense of some kind of portal or extra dimensional gate close by!
They took a short rest ad decided that – although the knowledge of their location was more or less safe on their return to Tyr the Gith would be looking for those whom killed this group and so the decision was made to destroy the entire Gith lair
As the sun dipped behind the mountains it was decided Frost and Solzak would scout out the lair first while the rest of the group followed. Frost managed to pick up the scent of where the Gith had come from and so they both headed off west deeper into the canyons. As the shadows of the canyon walls lengthened further solzak slyly slipped away and Frost was left on his own – unsure of his companions position – but he chose to ignore it and continued after the trail . After an hours travel Frost came upon a network of winding pathways cutting into the mountainside. The trail continued inside and so he knew this was their lair. Looking closer he discovered four entrances progressively narrower as they headed west. He sneaked closer and managed to spot 7 gith close to the first entrance and another 8 close to the second. The other two entrances seemed empty
Heading back to the others he found a discardsd stick nearby and by the light of the moon sketched out what he had seen
Splitting into smaller groups it was decided they would hit all 4 entrances at once – thereby hoping to panic the gith into running or making mistakes. Due to their size the Brohg would have difficulty in squeezing into some of the more narrower entrances so the blind monks were assigned those with the rest of the group following behind
Getting into position they would move on Orsks signal. The Brohg however have different ideas and rush forward howling at the gith smashing two of them against the wall before Orsk even has chance to react. The Gith scream a war cry enough to awake even the most slumbering of their number and throw javelins at the great giant – many of which fail to pierce his thick hide and those that do just make him more angry!
The rest follow as Eben charges from a different entrance – cutting down one sentry before bellowing a primal shout that brings the others to their knees blood pouring out of their ears before they collapse.
On the last entrance Frost steps forward and after a sickening crunch and squelch he nearly vomits from the wave of rotting smells that assault his nostrils. Squinting in the gloom however he notices glints of coinage in the debris which they set upon gathering. This must be where they dump all their rubbish they comclude but one thing common to all the bodies here is curious in there is a large round hole in the skulls of all the dead here
Looking at the back of the cavern Frost then detects the faint outline of something that looks like a door in the wall. Carefully stepping forward he traces the outline with his claws and motions to one of the brohg’s to step forward. The brohg stomps through the decaying corpses carelessly and on frost’s command launches himself into the doorway smashing it completely open. Frost hops through into the next room which seems to have been properly carved into the mountainside. The room is also pitch black and as he looks further he can once again see coins scattered around in addition 2 more gems! He then realises that the pouch he used to carry the other gems has been torn by what looks to be thorns or brush! Cursing his carelessness he stashes it in another pocket before getting the others to follow him in to help collect the rest
