Dark Sun: The Tyrant of Tyr
Orsk wakes to see Solzak grabbing his attention
Solzak takes Orsk out of the camp to meet some ‘champions’ who would like to meet him however Solzak warns him their intention is to try to kill him. Solzak fooled them into wearing some bracelets laced with poison. As the pair get close to the Tareks their leader salutes Orsk and bows before him, with a sinister smile. Their smiles soon turn to terror and anguish as their bodies are frozen in place by the poison on the bracelets rendering them immobile and unable to stop Orsk who, after establishing that they were foolish for trying to mess with him kills each one of them in turn by snapping their necks
Jekall wakes refreshed on silken sheets and is given fine cheeses and fresh bread alongside a light wine for his breakfast. It is a luxurious meal of the like that even in Tyr is hard to find. He gracefully observes their traditions and the Eladrin are most impressed. Alaric even goes so far as to say he would have mistaken him for an Eladrin. The two make pleasantries for a few moments before Alaric leaves to study the library for more that may assist the group. He saw in the archives knowledge of an old mine to the east of the city once used by an ancient Dwarven clan centuries before that for a time produced silver for the Eladrin before the veins ran dry. Now he knows not what inhabits that space but that it should lead to the lower levels of the monastery. If a battle of Dray and Tarek were to be used as a distraction they could surely pass through the caverns to the monastery undetected. The more that the critters kill each other the more the better Alaric smiles wryly
Eben, Frost, Orsk, Yakala and Solzak reconvene in the camp to discuss their plans for taking the Dray. Their plan is to directly assault their barracks and ploug through to the monastery. A message is sent to Alaric and the Eladrin for their assistance and it is offered as support to the main force that will strike at midday
As the sun beats down the Tareks led by Eben, Orsk, Yakala and the Brohg make their way through the ruined streets towards the barracks
When in position Jekall uses the seeing eyes to gain an overview of the Dray force who seem to be discussing some kind of plan on a map. He nearly gets a view of their plan but the view is partially obscured
Solzak sneaks ahead after gaining an idea of the force, intent on an assassination attempt. Scaling the wall he is faced with the Dray commander!
Assassination fails Solzak withdraws
Eben smashes down the door as rest of Tareks, Brohg and Orsk storm the barracks. The fight is an overwhelmig success as the Dray are driven out
Jekall feels psionic pulse
Dune reapers come streaming from the mountain
The group shore up the defences of the barracks as the Dune reapers close in
Yakala fires off a spell to slow them down but there are too many. Solzak heads forward again to try to assassinate one of the Dune Reaper warriors. He causes great damage but is forced to retreat before the rest of the swarm surround and kill him
By the time they reach the barracks the Dune Reapers are 200 strong swarming over the walls as they climb over one another or leap from tower to tower. The Tareks fight with the ferocity of the primal spirits but eventually even this is not enough to stop the sheer power and overwhelming numbers of Dune Reapers. The Tarek are overrun and killed. The group do not have time to see if any survive as they realise they must escape or be destroyed themselves!
Fleeing the barracks they run towards the area Jekall said to meet for the entrance to the mine but the Dune Reapers pursue and are gaining fast. The creatures are almost upon them when all of a sudden the landscape changes. The sky reddens and the colours around them intensify and a thick black storm cloud covers the top of the Eladrin palace. Bluish mirages of the Dune Reapers swarm over them and pass as if they had dissappeared off the face of Athas, as they seem to have done!
Standing close to the group are Jekall next to two well dressed Eladrin and a further group of 20 Eladrin behind that. Jekall smiles and greets them as Osk approaches Gillam ready to shake his hand. Gillam hesitates and looks to Jekall for reassurance which he is given. They congratulate the group on ridding them of the Tareks and that now they can reclaim the artefacts and treasures that the Tareks had stolen. Jekall contacts Alaric who has lightened his mood and is in reasonably high spirits relieved that none of his troops were subjected ti the Dune Reaper assault. Alaric has found more on the mines in that it was much more in ancient times – a shrine to the paraelement of sun, a rare but not unheard of affiliation. The only other known clan of Dwarf sun worshippers lives in Kled – North East of Tyr. Either way it is potentially the best way of getting past the guards and Dune Reapers rather than a full on attack which could be disastrous
With the plan settled the group set off, travelling the strange land within to find the ancient Dwarven mine…
