Session 76

Said farewell to Gilam and Ariel
They would stay above ground to continue attacks against the Dray lest they think something is up and come looking for them or worse yet send out the Dune Reapers!
As Jekall describes what Alaric tells him Frost carefully draws out a map of the Dwarven mine. The information is very old however and could be wrong so best to be cautious
The entrance to the mine has been blocked off by the Eladrin. A simple task for the Brohg who set to work clearing it
Inside the tunnel is dark and cool. The sunlight streaks in, the first light in what would seem like hundreds of years. It is also Dwarf sized so the larger members of the party squat down to fit
Down into the tunnel they slowly make their way down until they see a once grand archway open into a large room followed by another archway on the other end
Strange black marks on the walls indicate to Yakala evidence of defiling but again many hundreds of years ago and faded now. Inside the room are the blasted remains of dwarf-sized humanoids
Entering the room the group just about fit and are about to leave through the second archway when Frost notices a flagstone which is slightly raised above the others. He calls Solzak who instinctively recognises the tell-tale sign of a pressure plate! Orsk and the Brohg secure the archways in-case the trap is triggered. Solzak cooly takes care of it however and they are able to breathe easily and continue their journey
The corridor continues a steady slope down before turning 45 degrees to the north. At the end of this long corridor they see a faint light
Wary of more traps the groip continue onwards until they reach the opening where a grand hallway stretches before them. 3 stories high and longer than they can see it cuts deep into the mountains. The hall is in a poor state however as the columns that once stoor to the ceiling are now toppled and broken, and vines and moss grow over all of the stonework. Piles of rubble and earth collect in pockets around which could be from the ceiling or from the pillars it is unclear. Two great doors flank each other in the north and south walls, surrounded by runes. Frost takes lead and scouts around the room lookin for more traps. The air is noticeably colder here even for a stone construction
As he nears the south wall a rasping booming voice speaks to them all in an ancient tongue. Frost seems to almost understand it as the others try to listen. It is a warning, Frost repeats – The domain of Barak Stonewall is under our protection, you shall not pass
As Frost begins to try to explain that they are here in peace three shimmering ghostly shapes appear before him wielding great swords and Axes poised to attack. They retort that the group are but allies of Rajaat come to finish what he started
A creaking sound and sudden crash of falling rubble as the walls spring to life in the form of 5 giant stone golems
Solzak stands upon a mound of rubble and visibly throws down his rapier stating again that they are an enemy of all defilers and will not fight. The rest of the group stand ready but do not attack. The ghosts sneer to one another that this is but a trick and they will not be swayed
Frost conjures vines and new leaves amongst the foliage to try to convince them of his good intentions
Jekall, concentrating on the spirits conjures forth psionic images of the battles the group had against Kalak’s necromancers and the slaying of one of their number
With that the spirits hesitate and moments later evaporate, leaving just as mysteriously as they had arrived
The stone golems grind to a halt and remain motionless as before
Tybia walks up to one of the golems to touch it just as the others utter a loud but restrained no! She moves away whispering how cold it was to which narissa tuts but with a warm smile
Yakala moves over to the runes on the what appears to be the temple door, calling Solzak over to attempt to decipher them
It appears that it is indeed a temple of the great and glorious sun of athas, givver of life and warmth to the green and beautiful lands of Athas. Curious, Yakala continues – this must have been a long time ago! He continues reading as the others look towards the southerly door. The runes there tell of the great king Barak Stonewall who leads over the great citadel of Kemalok!
