Dark Sun: The Tyrant of Tyr
Orsk and frost headed upstairs
In the main room saw the blind monks surrounding a bloated Dray psion
Before the muls strike Orsk is able to intervene and through intimidation discovers that the Dray intended to travel to the moon of Ral and the ‘master’ (Psurlons) were taking them to a place where they could get the power to defeat Dregoth. Miraculously Orsk recognised the name of a barely believed to exist Sorcerer King, thought dead but it seems this is not the case and that the Dray they know on Athas are first generation, cast out by Dregoth for being ‘imperfect’ and replaced by a second generation, rumoured more advanced. Orsk indicates that the Dray may have been lost and not got to their location which angers the Dray but is believable enough that it shakes its confidence.
Frost circles the room discovering cracked and discarded tablets containing Eladrin and Draconic texts. The walls are scratched and blood soaked after countless battles and sparring matches
The walls cracked in places reveal 4 layers of redecoration, the earliest dating back thousands of years
Shattered glass at one end of the room reveal the moons shining in creating an eerie green and red light. What is left of the glass depict similar scenes of battling Eladrin but most of the faces of the Eladrin are melted or smashed
When he is finished intereogating Orsk allows the Mul to enact their revenge on the Dray, ripping it to pieces in fury and bloodlust
Frost checks outside to see the Dune Reapers have been driven down the mountain by the Wyverns
They both then attempt to get to the upper floor via the broken stair. Orsk leaps up confidently but as Frost tries to get up a large block of marble loosens and he slips to the ground injuring him slightly
Orsk then throws down the rope to haul Frost up but as he does Frost points behind him. Orsk looks round to see the huge open maw of the Wyvern next to his face, and before he can react the wyvern strikes him with his tail, stinging him in the process with its venom
Striking him again Orsk barely manages to scramble to defend himself as Frost hauls himself up onto the unstable looking floor and then spots a second wyvern rising up into the air from the remains of the second floor. It shrieks and calls to the other wyvern who responds in kind.
Frost shouts to Orsk that they should not do this alone but Orsk is transfixed on his glory drawing his hammer and staring down the beast
The wyvern takes to the air, raking Orsk with his claws as he swipes with his hammer, then the second wyvern swoops down, dive bombing Orsk and again catching him off guard
Frost bellows at Orsk to retreat and lassoing Orsk’s foot jumps back down into the room below pulling Orsk with him. Orsk attempts to stay upright but the momentum is too great and he is pulled down, furious a having his chance of glory taken away from him.
The wyverns crow and caw above them, hovering above the staircase. One then swoops down and reaches through the gap, savagely striking Frost who howls in pain
Orsk takes the opportunity to jump back up to the roof and swinging his hammer clatters the beasts back. For a moment it teeters on the edge but by flapping its great wings regains its stability much to Orsks annoyance
Fearing that Orsk has bitten off more than he can chew Frost too leaps back up to the top to see if he can at least keep Orsk alive enough to talk sense into him
Orsk takes the opportunity to strike the Wyvern again as it takes to the air but even he looks slightly concerned by the ease at which they slip from his grasp
Frost looks up to both of the Wyvern and, judging their behavior he figures it out, they are protecting something!
Ducking down so that he is in cover Frost sneaks around the corner to the other half of the floor and spots a nest, complete with 2 eggs! A sly smile cracks across his face as he spots his opportunity. Rushing forward but still trying to keep in cover he reaches the eggs and scoops them up before changing to his beast form where the eggs then are hidden. One of the Wyverns turns around and spots him and screams to its mate. Frost is quicker though and runs back through the rooftop and leaps down the staircase
Orsk smiles too and calls forth a challenge to the Wyverns to come and get him
The Wyverns swoop down past Orsk to get to Frost but as they do so the floor, which was weakened already collapses sending Orsk falling to the ground floor following the Wyvern!
Frost is hit several times as the two wyverns close in, screeching and clawing as he tries to escape
Orsk does his best to draw their attention but it is clear they are concentrating their efforts on Frost.
Summoning his spiritual Inix to assist in fending off the Wyverns Frost very nearly falls but just manages to slip away and race down into the catacombs. The Wyvern pair screech in anguish as they angrily tun to face Orsk. With a mighty blow Orsk catches one of the Wyverns just right – it falls twisting its neck on a large marble block
The 2nd Wyvern roars in anguih and takes the opportunity to pursue Frost heading downstairs and smashing through doorways in the process
By now Frost has put quite a distance between them and stands at the end of the catacombs ready to defend himself
The wyvern stands at the other end roaring before it staggers forward from the force of Orsk’s Hammer blow. Howling in pain it whirls around to take a bite and claw from Orsk
The three on one in such a cramped space mean there is little hope for the creature which is eventually brought down much to the joy of Orsk and Frost
Meanwhile the others down below begin to wonder where Frost and Orsk have gotten to and so Eben, Narissa and Frost head out to locate them
The group are reunited and aswell as dragging the corpse of a Wyvern behind them Frost had collected some fragments of stone tablets, some written in Elvish and others Draconic
The draconic tablets mention ‘the master’ and refer to being taken fo a place of power and when they return they will have an army powerful enough that they can destroy Dregoth the sorcerer King of Giustenal! According to any normal history Dregoth was killed centuries ago by the other sorcerer kings for being a traitor but rumours drifting on the winds whisper that somehow he survived. Also, it was learned that 2 generations of Dray exist. The first are the Dray that wander Athas today which were created by Dregoth but cast out for being ‘impure’. The second generation however much less is known of
Another fragment details parts of the ritual to infuse psionic power into an individual, however the end result is that they lose their free will. The group under Yakalas direction destroy the abominable ritual
On the Eladrin tablet fragments are details of the monastery and that he (the eladrin scolar named ‘Felanor’) suspects it to date back from a time when halflings could shape porous living rock into anything they desired, buildings, weapons, even creatures! Additionally that there are two kinds of halflings, the Rhulisti (savage halflings they know well) and another more ancient group located far to the north west beyond the forest ridge
These ancient halflings are known as the Rhul-Thaun and the only ones who seem to have knowledge of this ‘life shaping’ of the stones
Again ‘Rajaat’ is mentioned. Yakala explains what he knows of the monster – known as the warbringer. He was the one who brought scorcery to the world after experimenting with it for a millenia. A memeber of the Pyreen, an ancient race seldom seen or heard now but hideously deformed he wandered the land in search of answers and happened upon a bleak tower
